When a consumer disputes a charge on their credit card, they may submit claims and defenses as part of the dispute. Essentially, claims and defenses are the reasons why you believe that the charge should not have been made. These can range from the merchant providing goods or services that were not as advertised, to being charged for something that was never received. By submitting a claim or defense, you are asserting that the charges made to your card were incorrect in some way. Depending on the issuer of your credit card, they may require additional information to investigate the dispute.
