A credit freeze is when an individual requests that a credit reporting company not release their credit report or scores to anyone. A credit freeze is also sometimes called a security freeze. An individual may want to place a credit freeze on their credit report if they are concerned about identity theft. If an individual has a credit freeze in place, it can make it more difficult for someone to open new lines of credit in the individual's name.
