Soft Pull

A soft pull is defined as a request for your credit report that is not associated with extending new credit. These types of inquiries are not factored into your FICO score, and they don't indicate to creditors that you're shopping for new credit products. Some examples of activities that generate a soft inquiry are when you check your own credit report, when an employer checks your credit as part of a background check, or when a creditor reviews your account for possible pre-approval marketing purposes.
