Time-barred Debt

A time-barred debt is a debt that is no longer legally collectible because of the expiration of the statute of limitations. The statute of limitations is the time period in which a creditor can sue for the collection of a debt. After the expiration of the statute of limitations, the debt is considered to be time-barred and cannot be collected by the creditor.
