This bronze mask was cast before 1944 by Prof. Lyubomir Dalchev (1902–2002), one of Bulgaria’s most celebrated sculptors of the 20th century. Educated in Sofia, Rome, and Paris, Dalchev studied sculpture alongside Alberto Giacometti and specialized in plastic anatomy under Henri Meusson in Paris. Known for merging expressive realism with monumental form, he worked in stone, bronze, wood, and forged metal. His works appear in major collections across Europe and North America, and he influenced generations of Eastern European sculptors through both his teaching and public monuments.
