A processor is a financial institution that facilitates payment transactions and tracks and distributes funds in pooled accounts. In the case of credit card transactions, processors are responsible for authorizing payments, settles disputes, and collects fees on behalf of the credit card issuer. For debit card transactions, they also provide fraud protection services.
